If I were to choose a song that would really define what goes on inside my head and heart, this song would be it. “Written in the Stars” is a song sung by John Legend and WENDY from the K-pop girl group, Red Velvet. Wouldn’t it be nice to really have someone who is meant for you no matter what? Even if you are a thousand miles apart, even if he/she’s on the other side of the planet, even when it seems to be so impossible, he/she is the one who’s meant for you and only you. This is what this song is all about. Two people who are really meant for each other no matter the distance. Once they saw each other, they already knew that they found their “the one”.
There are a lot of stories and legends about finding your “other half”. An example of it is from Aristophanes when he made a story about how humans originally have four arms, four legs, and a single head made of two faces. Humans used to have great strength that they even had the capability to threaten the gods. Thus, as a solution, Zeus had an idea to cut the humans in half. The humans then suffered and longed for their other halves, the other halves of their soul. It is said that, “when the two find each other, there is an unspoken understanding of one another, that they feel unified and would lie with each other in unity and would know no greater joy than that”. Another example is from the Japanese Legend, “The Red String of Fate”. There is an ulnar artery that connects the heart and the pinky finger, but that is not only it. According to the Japanese Legend, this also extends and forms an invisible red string that connects with the red string of another person.
I’m a hopeless romantic who loves to dream about “true love” as cheesy and cringe-worthy as it may sound. I mean wouldn’t it be nice to have someone who truly loves you for being you where you can be goofy and weird, and he/she will only choose to even love you more? There may be arguments and miscommunication, but you will both choose to stay and fight for what you have? Even on the days when your world becomes so dark and dull, he/she will be that light to brighten up world and be the painter to counteract the darkness. In this world that seem to be like hell, he will be your small taste of cloud nine. Whenever I have the chance to stare at a window and my mind just decided to fly into an abyss, I always daydream of what is that like all about. It literally is one of the greatest dreams of mine.
