A Well-Rested Mind, A Well-Rested Heart

It’s that time of the year again – the day of being in love with love; a celebration of all forms of love, not just the romantic kind. Among these forms is self-love, something that is so important yet often gets overlooked during this special day. It has become common among people to associate negative thoughts with having no one to date on Valentine’s Day, but I think otherwise.
I think the bitterness towards Valentine’s Day is really, really unnecessary, as well as the ridicule towards people who just prefer to celebrate by themselves. In a relationship or not, self-love should still be prioritized. I, too, treated myself on that day. For me, self-care could be as simple as catching up on sleep and getting some rest, which is what I always seem to want. So I spent my Valentine’s Day in bed, watching films and letting myself relax.
Although not as sweet as how others spent their day, I could say that I was contented. Sometimes we need to be our own Valentine, not because we don’t have anyone else, but because of the mere fact that we deserve to treat ourselves with love.
