My Happy Unrequited Valentine

It was yet another day of the Basic Education Exit Assessment Test, the last day to be exact, and the special day of hearts, Valentine’s. Most of us would agree if you asked if the test was our date, yes, though it only lasted in the morning. As soon as it ended, I gave valentine letters to my friends, indeed surprising some since they thought I wouldn’t. After that small giving, my friend and I went straight to SM Bacoor. K.A was my date for valentines and we had some fun together. We ate at Baliwag’s located at the food court, 4th floor. We then played several games in Toms World. Our time was cut short because we had to go back at school to see our crushes.
Now here starts the highlight of my valentines. K.A and I arrived at around 3:30 p.m, staying by Lancaster Square. We went to the place where we saw flowers and debated whether to give our crushes one, since it was appropriate for valentines day. We didn’t plan for that to happen so minutes passed and we decided to give them. I bought a single sunflower that had a black wrapper. The color of the flower means sunshine, hope, and happiness, and it also symbolizes friendship. It also means adoration, loyalty and longevity which was true with what I was feeling.  K.A didn’t bought her crush a flower yet since she didn’t want to bring it to school and I had to bring mines because my crush would always go with her friend on an e-bike.
We proceeded with the initial plan we made. K.A was holding my flower on the way and it seemed as if she was doing the courting instead. As we got to school, we waited for some minutes until they went out. My crush took so long to get out of the Audio Visual Room, so a familiar face, J.M, called her for me. When A.A finally went out, with a thumping heart beat I asked, “I have a major question, can I give you a flower? It’s fine if you don’t want...” Then she started shaking her head. My heart sank and stopped for a second. I knew she didn’t want things like this (knows by first-hand experience) but I immediately said, “As friends. Even the literally meaning of it is friendship..” I was hoping she would consider and she did. I repeatedly asked her if she was sure and she said yes. I went to call K.A to go up since she was staying down stairs, just in case it went down the drain. A.A went back inside as K.A went up, as my friend did, I took the flower from her and hid it on my back. J.M once again called A.A. My crush kept saying she was embarrassed when I was the one feeling that. Once I revealed the sunflower, she was surprised by it. It was a single flower yet half as tall as me. Her friends were all giddy, going, “yieeeee” but my mind was begging them to stop since it didn’t mean anything but friendship to her. It wasn’t instantly accepted, assuming she consulted her friends since she was looking inside. In the end, she did and said “thank you,” as my heart and lips smiled, “Happy Valentine’s Day.”
