6 Years in the Making

I sit back in a student chair behind the office of Student Information Office writing this essay. Suddenly, I came to realise that after 2 weeks, I will inevitably leave the place I called home and school for the past 6 years. As an Edwardian for 6 years, I will tell you my story.

Year 1: As a Grade 7 student, adjusting to a new environment and people was my main concern. I had a hard time making new friends and meeting new people. It was as if they have already known each other prior to the school year and I was left out.

Year 2: Grade 8 was a blast. School plays, new friends, new families. I have finally broken out of my shell and met amazing people. People I would forever call my family in school and people I will remember forever. Teachers, friends, acquaintances, with them I have made unforgettable memories in this year.

Year 3: Grade 9 was a time maturity was starting to kick in. I recognised my responsibilities as a student and tried to excel academically. I performed a lead role as Crisostomo Ibarra in Noli Me Tangere, our national hero’s famous novel. I grew as a person and learned how to lead; leading by becoming an example.

Year 4: Grade 10 was an uncertain time. Due to the K-12 program, I was debating wether to transfer or remain in SEIS for my Senior High School. In this times, friendships were made and strengthened. We knew that some of us had to go and some will remain. It was quite an emotional year since it may be the last time to see my friends in a long time. I graduated with honors and flying colors.

Year 5: Grade 11 was the time I had to grow up. I have acquired the position of a leader in the classroom and I had to lead without a classroom adviser. Problems stacked up one after another and I needed to solve them, fast. In this regard, it was the time of my researcher’s self berth. I remember that it was the most stressful thing I had ever done. Fortunately, I got thru all of it and made it out with newly acquired skills and personality towards my education. In light of this, I have been the speaker to inspire my fellow achievers on the recognition rites.

Year 6: My last year. After 6 fruitful years, I am grateful to have learned and grow so much as a person, friend, and student. It has been my best year academically. Mainly because I liked what I’m studying and I know it will help me in my law school years. It can be an emotional year knowing that you had to leave the place and people you have known for 6 years and not returning anymore to participate in its activities. I know for sure that I will look back in time to reminisce the past and use it to propel my self in the future

I have witnessed the changes in SEIS, the change of the curriculum, teachers, students, etc. I can proudly say that being an alumni of SEIS is flabbergasting. My story does not end here and I still have a long road to walk, a rice field to eat, and a whole life to live. I live my life trying to become a better person compared to yesterday. A person I can be proud of. A person that future generation of Edwardians look up to and say “That guy used to be like me and I want to be like him.”
